"The glowing strands mark the path... or maybe they mark the prey." — Xalarin of House Rythis

Appearance

Draping moss that cascades from stalactites in shimmering violet tendrils, resembling veils of light in an underground breeze.

Constantly emits a soft, violet glow similar to moonlight on water. The glow intensifies briefly when touched or exposed to motion.

Effects

Constantly sheds fine, glittering spores that cling to skin and clothing. Creatures in a 10 ft. radius must make a **DC 14 Fortitude save** or become outlined in a glowing silhouette (**faerie fire**) for **1d6 rounds**.

Drow scouts and hunters use this moss to **mark paths**, **tag prey**, or create **ambush zones** where intruders are illuminated and exposed.

Ecology & Lore

Believed to be the remnants of a surface plant corrupted by the Underdark, Veilspore now thrives in total darkness. Some Underdark cultures view it as a guardian of the deep, revealing what should remain unseen.

Harvesting

Clipping the moss is easy (no check required), but avoiding the spore cloud requires a DC 15 Stealth or Sleight of Hand check. Some underdark traders sell it in terrarium-like jars for light or security purposes.

GM Tip --- Use Veilspore in stealth-based encounters. A failed save could alert nearby predators or drow patrols, adding tension and realism to underground travel.
